Forced Marriage Workshop
To raise awareness of forced marriage, disseminate information and improve responses when dealing with this issue
Target Audience: Groups 1 - 3 Those in regular contact or have a period of intense but irregular contact, with children, young people and/or parents/carers including all health clinical staff, who may be in a position to identify concerns about maltreatment. Members of the workforce who work predominantly with children, young people and/or their parents/carers and who could potentially contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and reviewing the needs of a child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns.
Aims & Objectives: By the end of this half day course participants will:
- Better understanding of Forced Marriages, why they happen and who is affected
- Considered some of the principles and challenges when working with cases of Forced Marriage
- Developed an understanding of legislative framework and local policies and procedures
- Gained insight into the role of culture and the particular needs of those affected by Forced Marriage;
- Explored the changes needed in the areas of service delivery when dealing with this issue
- Considered some case studies
