Engaging Men in Safeguarding and Work with Vulnerable Children and Their Families

Engaging men is often one of the most challenging issues practitioners face when undertaking assessments. Research has consistently shown that all too often fathers and other men in families are absent in the assessment process. This one day on-line course seeks to explore our expectations of men and fathering and to consider how we can engage men more effectively in our work

Target Group: Groups 3 - 5  Members of the workforce who work predominantly with children, young people and/or their parents/carers and who could potentially contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and reviewing the needs of a child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns

Aims & Objectives: By the end of this one day on-line workshop the participants will have:

  • Explored the role of fathers/partners in the families they work with
  • Discussed the issues that arise when we attempt to engage men in work with families
  • Considered the messages from research in this area of practice
  • Explored strategies and ways of working that can help practitioners engage with men more effectively
