Introduction to NVR (level 1)

A three part interactive workshop to support professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond

This three part workshop will introduce the tools of the NVR (Non-Violent Resistance) Parenting Programme. NVR is an effective practice based evidence course that aims to help parents and carers manage older children and adolescents where there are difficulties due to defiance, conduct problems, child to parent violence, school refusal, ADHD, ASD or significant anxiety.

Before applying for this workshop, please note the following conditions:

This is an interactive zoom workshop. With this in mind please be aware that we operate a ‘cameras on’ policy, in order to replicate face to face workshops as much as possible.

Introduction to Non-Violent Resistance is usually a whole day course, we understand that webinars can be quite demanding so we intend to spread the learning over three sessions, with exercises to complete at home / in the office (beforehand, in-between and after). All virtual sessions will be a maximum 3 1/2 hours in length.

Please only apply if you can attend all 3 sessions.

  •  We may send pre-course information.
  • After the first session we will send exercises for you to complete before the second session etc.

You MUST attend all 3 sessions and complete the evaluation to achieve accreditation and receive your certificate.

Using a mix of teaching, role play and discussion, we will introduce NVR tools including De-escalation, Parental Presence and a further range of NVR tools and techniques that support parents and carers to re-build the relationship with their child / young person.

module 1: Grounding NVR concepts (de-escalation, parental presence, baskets, supporters & self-care).

module 2: Core NVR concepts: Re-conciliation Gestures and Active Resistance

module 3: further NVR concepts: Active Resistance (continued); Announcements and sit-ins.

Target Audience: Groups 3 – 6; Members of the workforce who work predominantly with children, young people and/or their parents/carers and who could potentially contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and reviewing the needs of a child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns. Operational managers at all levels.

Aims & Objectives: By the end of this three part workshop participants will have:

  • A basic understanding of NVR theory and practice
  • The ability to introduce NVR ideas with their clients
  • Access to level 2 and 3 training workshops, subject to availability
