Critical Thinking & Risk Assessments

The importance of reflecting within a critical mindset is expected with complex risk assessment and this training will promote complexity and analysis. Holding the whole picture for a child and using professional meeting to critically evaluate a child or young person’s life is essential if we are to provide safety in professional decision making.

Target Group: Groups 3- 5 Members of the workforce who have particular responsibilities in relation to undertaking section 47 enquiries, including professionals from health, education, police and children’s social care; those who work with complex cases and social work staff responsible for co-ordinating assessments of children in need. Professional advisors, named and designated lead professionals.

Aims & Objectives: By the end of this virtual online session course participants will :

  • Understand and apply analysis, risk and protective factors to context and consider systems theory;
  • Understand the basis for evidencing decisions and professional opinions;
  • Understand the thresholds and criteria in analysing risk;
  • Explore the research from practice reviews and it’s application to practice;
  • Explored current tools in assessing risk in different safeguarding areas and build a toolkit for analysis.
  • Be provided with tools to encourage this mindset and make change plans for children, young people and their families
