With the messages from serious case reviews about the use of 'authoritative practice', this course is for safeguarding practitioners/managers to build on these messages and the explore what this looks like when working with families and other professionals, in making sense of the child's lived experience

We may send pre-course information, prior to the first training session

Target Group: Groups 2-3  Staff who work regularly with children and young people. People with particular responsibility for safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare and have a professional and statutory responsibility to know about child protection.

Aims & Objectives: The overall aim of this two x half day sessions course is to challenge current practice through developing a 'thinking authoritatively on your feet' approach when working with families, when they might be evasive and knocking practitioners off course

  • To develop confidence and competence in the interface with other safeguarding professionals
  • To unpick what 'authoritative practice' looks like in action
  • To use approaches that assist practitioners in using authority when working with families
