Safeguarding Children: Basic Induction On-Line Workshop

To develop awareness of, and the ability to act on concerns about the safety and welfare of children and young people.

Before applying for this workshop, please note the following conditions:

Safeguarding Children Basic Induction is usually a whole day course, we understand that webinars can be quite demanding so we intend to spread the learning over two sessions, with exercises to complete at home / in the office (beforehand & in-between sessions). Both webinar sessions will be a maximum 3 hours in length.

Please only apply if you can attend both sessions.

  •  We will send pre-course information, including an exercise to complete, prior to the first training session (this will be as an attachment on your booking confirmation).
  • After the first session we will send exercises for you to complete before the second session.

You MUST attend both sessions and complete the evaluation to receive your certificate.

Target Group: Group 1  Staff in infrequent contact with children, young people and/or parents/carers who may become aware of possible abuse or neglect. Examples: Librarians, GP receptionists, community advice centre staff, groundsmen, recreation assistants, environmental health officers, hospital support staff, and receptionists, volunteers and new starters to Children's Workforce.

Aims & Objectives: By the end of this two session programme participants will:

  • Have some basic information and background about the legislative framework within which children’s welfare is safeguarded and promoted
  • An understanding of their role in referral processes and information sharing
  • Be enabled to examine their own values and attitudes about safeguarding children
  • Have the skills and knowledge necessary to manage the interface between themselves and statutory agencies (if not employed in one) and, where appropriate, the child and family
