Allegations against Staff and Volunteers: understanding  the LADO process

An interactive on-line workshop to support professionals.

This workshop briefing aims to develop and enhance participants’ understanding of the role of the Local Authority Designated Officer and the process for managing allegations made against staff or volunteers working with children in schools and other settings

Target groups: 3-6 Members of the workforce who work predominantly with children, young people and/or their parents/carers. Professional Advisors, Named and Designated Lead Professionals, Headteachers, Nursery and Childrens Centre Managers, Operational Managers at all levels including: Practice Supervisors; Front Line Managers and Managers of Child Protection Units

Objectives: By the end of this on-line session participants will be able:

  • To understand the role of the Local Authority Designated Officer
  • To understand the LADO process for managing allegations against staff and volunteers
  • To gain an understanding of the LADO thresholds, to know when to refer to the LADO and to develop confidence in completing the referral form
  • To make contributions and participate in the process and understand what is expected
  • To understand the possible LADO outcomes and the consequences of these
  • Ensuring that safeguarding of children is the priority in investigations and decisions
  • Understanding the duty of care to employees and the actions needed to ensure that staff are supported in the LADO process
