Having Difficult Conversations: Communicating with Children and Parents about Concerns

This training will help attendees to develop knowledge, skills and confidence in communicating with children and families where there are safeguarding concerns.

By the end of this one day course the participants will have:

  • Learned about how children communicate, with reference to developmental stages including disability
  • Developed skills and approaches in effective communication with children and parents/carers where abuse is/may be an issue
  • Learned some practical and effective techniques to conduct and manage difficult conversations in the context of safeguarding children
  • Developed their confidence in initiating conversations around sensitive topics or raising concerns with parents/carers
  • Increased understanding of how to challenge parents/carers effectively
  • Improved their ability to ascertain child's wishes and feelings
