This course aims to increase confidence and good practice in working with disabled children and their families to assess children’s needs, identify risks and take effective and timely action to protect children at risk of harm. It will also explore the challenges of protecting disabled children effectively by highlighting their needs and recognising the diverse ways in which children may communicate their needs.
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Understand the factors that can increase the risk of neglect and abuse of disabled children and young people;
- Understand the thresholds and levels of expected care;
- Increase their confidence in working with disabled children and assessing their families (tools);
- Be aware of legislation, procedures and guidance regarding safeguarding disabled children and explore messages from research and child safeguarding practice reviews
