Promoting Joint Agency Working for Improved Safeguarding Responses 

Target group: Groups 3 - 5  Members of the workforce who work predominantly with children, young people and/or their parents/carers and who could potentially contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and reviewing the needs of a child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns. Manager/decisionmaker level roles eg: Service/Team leaders (Childrens Safeguarding & Social Care) DS,PS’s and DI’s (Police) and Designated Safeguarding Leads /Managers with safeguarding decision making responsibilities in Health.

Before applying for this workshop, please note the following conditions:

  •  We may send pre-course information, prior to the first training session (this will be as an attachment on your Zoom invite Link). 
  • After the first session we may send exercises, or further information for you to acquaint yourself with, prior to the second session.

 You MUST attend both sessions and complete the evaluation to receive your certificate.

Overall Aim:

To assist participants in understanding the differing roles and priorities in safeguarding young people and appreciate the role that effective collaborative working has on keeping children safe from harm

  Anticipated Learning Outcomes

  • Know best practice when working together to safeguarding and protect young people
  • Understand the importance for effective agency collaboration when working with young people
  • and their families. Focusing on relationships with Police, Children’s Social care and health colleagues.
  • Appreciate the differing agencies responsibilities when investigating a child protection or      safeguarding matter
  • Understand the role of the ‘critical friend in safeguarding children and how to discuss different approaches in a helpful and meaningful way

 Session one:

Introduction and explanation of why do we work together? (Presentation of history, serious case review findings and research)

Understanding each organisation (Quiz and Small Group Discussion)

Consider different agency approaches to engagement and intervention (case study discussion in small groups)

 Session Two

Working Together Case Study (activities will initially look at a single agency review of the information and where it would fit in a police or social care remit.

It will move towards action planning, decision making and seeks to assist both agencies in understanding different organisational priorities and how to manage difference and conflict, i.e prioritising the child needs while avoiding loss of vital forensic evidence.
