Safeguarding Children: Basic Induction
To develop awareness of, and the ability to act on, concerns about the safety and welfare of children and young people.
Target Group: Staff in infrequent contact with children, young people and/or parents/carers who may become aware of possible abuse or neglect. Examples: Librarians, GP receptionists, community advice centre staff, groundsmen, recreation assistants, environmental health officers, hospital support staff, and receptionists, volunteers and new starters to Childrens Workforce.
Aims & Objectives: By the end of this one day programme participants will:
- Have some basic information and background about the legislative framework within which children’s welfare is safeguarded and promoted
- An understanding of their role in referral processes and information sharing
- Be enabled to examine their own values and attitudes about safeguarding children
- Have the skills and knowledge necessary to manage the interface between themselves and statutory agencies (if not employed in one) and, where appropriate, the child and family
