By the end of the programme participants will be given opportunities to consider the following contemporary topics and then apply them directly to their own practice:

  • Risk and Assessment within Uncertain Conditions and where the Trio of Vulnerabilities fits in
  • Dr David Wilkins' research on decision-making in social work and his earlier work on Improving Analysis
  • Dr Andrew Whittaker's research on how child protection practitioners make decisions in real-life situatons
  • Prof Jane Barlow and colleagues' research into the effectiveness of Assessment Tools
  • How can practitioners remain 'Professionally Curious'?
  • 'What Works' when trying to help families?
  • What is 'Evidence' and how can we use it better?

This training will be delivered by Professor David Shemmings.
